Press Release : For release Monday 22nd May 2016
Crowdfunder based in Newquay have this month recruited their new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Philip Walker, from San Francisco USA.
Facilitated through the Software Cornwall recruitment service which is helping to address the skills shortage in Cornwall as the fast growing digital-tech sector continues to seek out talent to fill new roles.
This month a Finance Director from San Francisco has made his Christmas wish come true with the help of Software Cornwall.
Christmas Eve 2015, Software Cornwall received a friendly message from the West Coast USA asking for advice on relocating to the UK.
Philip Walker, Fellow Chartered Accountant and Director of Finance at leading San Francisco tech start-up Rocket Lawyer, had been following Software Cornwall online and made contact with a Christmas request the community couldn’t refuse!
Having spent over 10 years in Silicon Valley guiding San Francisco tech start ups to financial sustainability and success, Philip and his family were ready to relocate back to the UK. Married with two young children and a passion for surfing, Cornwall was the family’s perfect destination.
Leaving Google Ventures-backed RocketLawyer, Philip brings with him great tech skills beyond finance including product and partnership development, UX design, marketing, sales, business intelligence, strategic planning and performance management.
Philip has plenty of personal interests that suit a Cornish Lifestyle including the coastline, adventure, conservation and environment, community, coffee, craft beer and surfing.
Phil joins Newquay based Crowdfunder, the UKs leading crowdfunding platform, as their Chief Financial Officer following the organisation’s significant growth over the past year. The company advertised over 20 new job opportunities just before Christmas and are still seeking a number of professionals to join their crowd including an experienced PHP developer.
Philip Walker commented “I was very grateful to get such a warm response after contacting both both Software Cornwall and Crowdfunder. Both were really well aligned and went above and beyond to help with the logistics of relocating and providing local information and contacts. I’m already enjoying being part of the crowd at Crowdfunder and I’m looking forward to being part of the vibrant tech and creative community here in Cornwall.”
Phil Geraghty, Director at Crowdfunder commented “Philip is a great fit for Crowdfunder. We are growing significantly and his experience with high growth tech start ups and a deep knowledge of finance and general operations in the sector will further support that growth.”
“We knew joining Software Cornwall would amplify our recruiting message, but the way they helped in Philip’s transition far exceeded our expectations. It’s great to see our community attracting such talented people from all over the world.”
Belinda Waldock, Director and Co-founder of Software Cornwall commented “We are delighted to welcome Philip to Cornwall. Software Cornwall aims to help local tech businesses recruit both locally and internationally by attracting, finding, informing and introducing candidates to local businesses with tech vacancies. It’s a simple but very effective solution to help address Cornwall’s tech skills shortage. We are working hard to grow our own tech talent in Cornwall through our learn to code programme and we are delighted to welcome Philip’s offer to support the Software Cornwall Community in this”.
SoftwareCornwall.org has advertised over 40 jobs over the past year for its members, with members reporting increases in applications directly attributable to the network. As it enters its second year as an independent community Software Cornwall are hosting a free celebratory connect event for the community on the 16th June at Pool Innovation Centre.
