C# .NET Developer

Software Development. Onshore

Job Description
We’re growing quickly and we are setting up 2 new .NET development teams, which means we have 13 vacancies at the moment. We’re currently 100 people, but because we work in small teams we have more of a start-up feel. The culture is relaxed with flexible working, free freshly ground coffee & fruit. We’re agile and we work in 1 or 2 week sprints.

The team you will be joining works for one of the biggest insurance providers in the world. We create multi-tiered .Net MVC applications with responsive user interfaces and WCF service layers. Our UI’s tend to be a mixture of vanilla JavaScript with JQuery and knockout.js but we are interested in how more comprehensive frameworks like Ember and Angular can help us. We are starting to use WebApi as an alternative to WCF to expose our business logic but there is still a reasonable amount of SOAP in our stack.

We are working towards a continuous deployment, DevOps world – we generally release monthly but are starting to release fortnightly in some teams. The release process is becoming a push button process but we are not quite there yet.

People are our number 1 priority and everything we do is to ensure that our teams are happy. We work and live in an amazing location which we make the most of whenever we can. A healthy work life balance is essential and we insist that people take breaks, this is not somewhere that you need to work extra hours in order to be noticed. Your code and your attitude are what will get you noticed here.

What we need you to have…

A knowledge of WebApi or WCF service development. Experience building ASP.Net MVC web applications with a good understanding of HTML, CSS and JavaScript. You’ll need to know how to use LINQ and Entity Framework as well as knowledge of Agile development methods and practices. If you have experience writing unit and integration tests this is also pretty key for us.

This will also give you more of an idea what the team is doing, though we don’t expect you to have experience of all of this. However, if you do then it would be very useful!

We implement automated tests written with the Gherkin syntax using SpecFlow and use Selenium to build automated UI tests. We use JavaScript libraries such as knockout.js and require.js and are interested in using frameworks such as AngularJS, Aurelia, React to build our user interfaces. We practice pair programming and are well on our way to a continuous delivery pipeline, so if you’ve done this before, do let us know! If you have any knowledge of Microsoft Team Foundation Server Release Management or PowerShell that could also be useful.

These positions do require commercial experience so unfortunately, we can’t accept any recent graduates for these roles. Also – we are located in Cornwall UK and these roles are not remote. You will need to live in or move to Cornwall and due to timescales, we ideally need people who already have the right to work in the UK or who are already in the UK with a visa which we can takeover if necessary.
