Data Science for Health and Wellbeing

Wednesday March 25 @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

This month our focus will be on the rapidly growing field of data-driven health and wellbeing applications.

This growth has been driven, in part, by national priorities modernising healthcare, and citizen’s desire for a more personalised experience.

To showcase the diversity of applications we have several speakers sharing their work in sectors as varied as mental health and personal data rights.

The format be:

* 20 min talk from each speaker sharing their journey, ups and down, achievements and lessons learned.

* 10 minutes Q&A after each talk

* extended free discussion and networking after the talks

The key aim of this session is to help professionals and researchers connect, share challenges and lessons learned, and potentially find partners for solving them.

We’re lucky to have the following speakers and talks:

* Steve Fenney – Optadapt CIC, will be sharing his passion, using data to drive intelligent community interventions to improve health, and personalised guidance for individuals to help achieve their fitness goals.

* Dr Paul Upton – with significant experience in the NHS, Paul identified the pre-operations process as ripe for personalisation and digitisation. He will explain how enabling patients to complete this at home makes the experience more pleasant, but also more efficient for the care provider, especially when data analysis can support triaging and initial decision making.

* Adam Pearson – exploring automated conversations to support therapy and mental wellbeing, and in particular a prototype developed as part of project Hypnotherabots and based on user-centred research.

* Kathryn Heath is a senior associate at law firm Stephens Scown, specialising in IP, technology, and data protection. She’ll give an overview of the challenges that innovators in data driven health applications must be mindful of, including considerations of ethical and societal impacts.

There will be additional short 5 minute talks – including a talk by Daniel Derbyshire, from The Inclusivity Project, quantifying unconscious bias against people with disabilities and how it affects their employment opportunities.

We’re back at the usual venue, the Sandpit Theatre downstairs in the AIR building.

Parking is free outside the Launchpad building after 5pm.

The talks will start at 7.00pm, please arrive before this, from 6.30pm.
