BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Computing

If you enjoy learning about Computers and Computer programming, then the Extended Diploma in Software Development will be of great interest to you. Building on your existing knowledge this course will stretch and challenge your IT knowledge and skills.
Covering 18 different subjects over two years you will study a wide range of topics including the Computer Programming, Computer Hardware and Networking, Digital Graphics and Animation, Games Development and Server Side Scripting. You will work on a wide variety of interesting practical and theoretical projects. By the end of this course, you will be confident in planning, designing and writing computer programmes, building websites, developing mobile phone apps, configuring and managing networks, and analyzing and designing complex computer systems for business. You will understand how to configure and protect an IT system from attack and subsequent data loss. You will be able to describe the impact that IT systems are having on our world and how businesses are using the latest technologies to gain a competitive edge. Upon successful completion of this course, you will have a comprehensive understanding of modern software development. You will be well prepared to enter the workplace as an IT apprentice or to go on and study a Computing related degree at university.
The units studied include; Computer Systems, Digital Graphics, Spreadsheet Modelling and Website Design which combine to provide an understanding of how computer hardware and software is developed to meet user requirements in the worlds of industry and commerce. Units in Client-Side Web Sites and Server Side provide an insight into the ways in which software is used to create effective websites which will run on a wide variety of platforms. Advanced units in Computer Animation and Computer Games Development allow students to develop and demonstrate their creative IT skills to provide real-world solutions for clients.
The final qualification is equivalent to three A Levels and is well regarded by Higher Education institutions for progression.
